History & Origin
Legend states that the great Sage Kapil meditated inside this dark, natural cave to attain enlightenment. The temple is dedicated to Lord Shiva.
Into the Sacred Dark
Located near the village of Ancholi, Kapileshwar Mahadev requires a short, scenic trek through mustard fields and pine groves.
The Cave Experience:
- The Descent: The cave is roughly 10 meters deep. Inside, water constantly drips from the ceiling onto a natural stone Shivalinga.
- The Silence: Unlike the busy town temples, Kapileshwar is silent, save for the sound of the nearby rivulet.
- Festivals: During Maha Shivratri, the entire Ancholi community gathers here for an all-night vigil.
