History & Origin

Mentioned in the Skanda Purana, this cave was rediscovered by Adi Shankaracharya in the 8th century. It is said that the cave holds the secrets of the four Yugas and the end of the world.

  • The Four Entrances: Named Randwar, Paapdwar, Dharamdwar, and Mokshadwar. (Legend says Paapdwar closed after Ravana's death).
  • The Havan Kund: Formations representing the sacrificial fire of King Janamejaya.
  • The Pauranic Calendar: Stalactites that are said to grow a few millimeters every year, marking the progress of the Kali Yuga.
